So sublime. Every part of me wants to grow it in my yard. But, with respect to gorse and the land I live on, I know better. So I’ve settled to just enjoy it when I can.
There's a beautiful Old Irish word 'aitenchaetrach' used to describe the goddess Eithne, which means ‘with gorse-coloured pubic hair’, and she is a symbol of sovereignty of the land itself. I thought I'd share as I often think about this when the gorse is in full bloom. 💛
I have been rolling naked in the dew for a few years now on Bealtaine morning. Nothing rebirths me like this practice! The Land seems to love it, too. I go out in the wee hours, always like the magical child, become a maiden and then come inside no longer such a maiden! ;) Thank you for this beautiful post~ I shall spend a Bealtaine in Ireland one day.
Oh I love this Amanda and I can well imagine how much the land loves it and responds to your magical child and maiden energy rolling around! & hear's to you spending Bealtaine in Ireland one day, a stór. 😍
It's fascinating isn't it and a beautiful ritual to do - begin your day at sunset. Here's a piece I wrote about it, it is for the membership but the introduction will provide a good overview: https://celticcreatives.substack.com/p/start-your-day-at-sunset 💛
I love the idea of rolling naked in the morning dew… and I didn’t know that saying about gorse. I’m obsessed with gorse.
Me too I ADORE gorse!! Isn't it sublime?!
