A Chairde, Friends,

Next Tuesday, 10th June 2025, we will gather in our tuath, our creative tribe, under the full moon in Sagittarius to explore our inner-wilds with the wild woman archetype of Mis and her lover, the harpist, Dubh Ruis. Mis, originally the goddess of Sliabh Mis in Co. Kerry, appears to us in Irish lore as a geilt, a banshee, and is sometimes called, Ireland’s first vampire.

A geilt in Old Irish is described as ‘One who goes mad from terror; a panic-stricken fugitive from battle; a crazy person living in the woods and supposed to be endowed with the power of levitation; a lunatic.’ The transformation of the geilt is an archetypal journey of one who is ruptured from their life as they know it, is forced through a period of grief-stricken, wild transformation, and often with the help of an ally, guided to reintegrate into their life in a new, embodied way. The old life and persona is dissolved, causing the chaos of shadow to emerge that must be integrated in order to truly know oneself.

‘The meeting with oneself is, at first, the meeting with one’s own shadow. The shadow is a tight passage, a narrow door, whose painful constriction no one is spared who goes down to the deep well. But one must learn to know oneself in order to know who one is.’

Carl G. Jung, Collected Works Vol. 9, Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious, par.45

We will begin our gathering with the story of Mis, followed by time for contemplation, journalling and sharing. After which, you will be guided through a movement practice to connect with your inner-wilds. This class is not just for women, it is open to all genders. Mis and Dubh Ruis are alive within us all.

What you will need:

  • A candle

  • A journal and pen

  • Comforts like a warm brew or a blanket, whatever you need to enter the realm of story

  • A quiet, safe space where you feel comfortable to move with your eyes closed

  • A yoga mat, rug or blanket to support your knees as you move, along with comfy clothes that allow a full range of movement

  • An eye mask (optional) if you prefer to move with covered eyes

  • Good sound equipment to hear the narration and music clearly

  • Please don’t worry, your screen will be off as you move so noone will be watching you

  • You’ll also have a rest period after the movement part of this gathering so bring along whatever you need for this
